Cheap Halloween Costumes Inspired by Netflix Shows

10.09.2019 by Jen Ryland // 8 Comments

So you need a Halloween costume that’s fast, easy and cheap? Who doesn’t?! Raid your closet, order a few of these key pieces that I’ve scouted online, and you’re good to go. (SPOILER: there’s one $5 item that can be used to create at least 4 different character costumes!) Here are my picks for Cheap Halloween Costumes Inspired by Netflix Shows and Series! Updated in 2023!

Are you looking for cheap and easy Netflix series costume ideas?

All of these costumes:

a) work for different genders and body types

b) can be done individually OR with a group, because group costumes super fun and

c) feature things you probably already have in your closet – I’ll show you how to do each cheap Halloween costumes inspired by Netflix shows on a $10 budget and then offer additional options if you can spend up to $20. Let’s get started!

Cheap Halloween Costumes Inspired by Robin and Steve from Stranger Things

Cheap Steve and Robin From Stranger Things Costume

Stranger Things offers just SO many possible Halloween costumes, but I’m focusing on Robin and Steve here in their adorable Scoops Ahoy Ice Cream uniforms. You can pay $50 for Robin’s costume in a Halloween store, but be green and shop your closet!

From your closet: striped shirt (red/white or blue/white), or just a solid navy shirt. Pair with red, white or blue shorts (or jeans if it’s cold out.)

Buy a few key accessories:

Sailor hat for Robin and Steve Halloween Costume Stranger Things

For $7 you can buy this sailor hat and, if you want, use a blue Sharpie to write “Ahoy” on it.

For another $7 add this red neck scarf

For $10 you can get a hat AND navy scarf:

You can finish the costume off by making yourself a little cardboard name tag that says “Steve” or “Robin” and carrying an ice cream scoop.

Cheap Halloween Costumes Inspired by Sabrina and the Weird Sisters from The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Cheap Sabrina and the Weird Sisters Costume

You can pay $70 on Etsy for a gorgeous costume, but this one is also very easy to make out of stuff you already have! Plus this (obviously) makes a great group costume to do with friends.

From your closet: a jewel toned dress (or you could do a matching shirt and skirt.)

If you don’t have that already, here is a good red dress option for larger sizes and here’s a red dress that’s a bit more expensive if you need a smaller size.

BUY: I’d say a key part of the outfit is that lace collar which you can grab for only $9. It’s a steal! If you want a more tailored option, check out this two for ten deal!. Pay attention to this item as you’re going to see it again!

Then you can complete the look with cool makeup (black or deep red lipstick) and hair (braids, a headband, or slicked back). Plus some black nail polish.

Last but not least:

Cheap Halloween Costumes Inspired by the Derry Girls

Cheap Derry Girls Costume

This is another great group costume! And who doesn’t love that sassy squad from Derry!

Shop your closet: short navy skirt or pants, v-neck green or navy sweater, white collared shirt, navy blazer.

BUY: to me, the most iconic parts of the costume are the plaid miniskirt (but you could use navy pants) and the striped tie. I found a good dupe for the tie at $10 and of the skirt for $16. If you have either or both of those, you can fill in with items from your own closet.

Here’s a good option for the skirt. It’s about $20 and comes in S-XXL. This one is the same, but from a different vendor.

The tie is harder to find an exact match for – this is the closest affordable option I found, for $10. If you’d rather spend on the skirt, find any striped tie, or raid a friend’s closet, or go thrifting…

If you really want a sweater vest (though not sure why you would) then check out this option for $13. Then you can finish the look off with a headband and worried expression (for Clare) or big hoop earrings (for Michelle). Now go practice your accent and Irish slang!

Last year’s post featured cheap and easy costumes from Riverdale, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, and The Cruel Prince. Click on the link to read the full post but the highlights are here:

Here are my ideas for Kitty and Lara Jean:

YES – the lace collar is back! Lara Jean loves a pastel sweater with a white collar. Here are the two ($9 and $5) options again if you don’t want to scroll back. The first lace collar you can grab for only $9. It’s a steal! If you want a more tailored option, check out this two for ten deal!

You can probably find pastels in your own closet, but if you want a cute pink plaid skirt that you might be able to wear again, try this one:

This pastel skirt comes in 5 pastel colors and is $17

For Kitty, just raid your closet and drawers for a denim jacket, some political buttons, and colorful socks.

Hello, lace collar YET AGAIN that works either for Veronica (pair it with a fitted black dress and vampy red lips and nails) or Betty (pastel sweater and a ponytail).

Need even MORE ideas? Check out this post on quick and easy costumes from items in your closet. If you have one of these three items (spoiler: sunglasses, a cardigan and a bomber jacket) you can make at least TEN fun costumes!

Those are great!

Kevin has to dress up for work but doesn’t want to so I’m trying to find something super simple that has a punny kind of angle to it.

Do you dress up?

Ooo great tips! I wonder how many Scoops Ahoy costumes we’ll see this Halloween. I’m supposed to be a narwhal, I guess I should get on that.
