Brief Plot Summary for Hot Girl Murder Club

I’m leaving out a domestic terrorism subplot because the rest is enough!

The story opens as Detective Grey Holloway arrives at a Bel Air mansion to investigate a murder. Everyone remarks that the murder victim, Elizabeth Banks, looks just like her. Elizabeth’s killer left the lyrics of a song by popular artist Scout Sage song in blood on the wall.

Ten Years Earlier:

Scout Sage, along with her younger sister Georgia and her friend Isabel and Brooks, sneak into a holiday party hosted by ABS Network owner Easton Banks. Scout and Isabel star on an ABS show called The Weird World of Wenda Word.

Detective Carmen Ellis tells Grey that Elizabeth was the assistant to Reese Griffin, the head of a production company and a notorious sexual assaulter. Grey also overhears Carmen telling their boss that she thinks Scout Sage could be a serial murderer.

Carmen points out to Grey that Brenda Kellogg, who just gave evidence against Reese Griffin, just died.

Ten Years Earlier:

Scout can’t find Georgia. She and Brooks to look for her, but Georgia is dead.

Carmen shares her Murder Club theory with Grey. Director Simon Markham died under the same circumstances as his wife Kathryn Burgeon had a year ago. Rumors said Markham was jealous of his wife’s career and killed her. Carmen thinks the Murder Club killed him. Grey begins to listen to Scout’s music and starts to believe her.

Ten Years Earlier:

When interviewed about Georgia’s death, Izzy thinks Alden Banks did it as he was obsessed with Georgia. Detective Carmen Ellis, who was on the case, warned Isabel and Scout about the Banks family’s power and influence.

We learn that Grey’s sister Alice worked at the Serpent Room before her death. Grey gets notified about a 911 call at Scout’s house. Carmen is there, yelling accusations and stealing Scout’s garbage.

Ten Years Earlier:

The police tell Scout that there’s not enough evidence to charge anyone in Georgia’s murder. Isabel and Scout quit their show (since it’s on Easton’s network) break into Easton’s house, and brand Alden with a knife. Scout’s debut album does well. Alden hangs himself.

The “Hot Girls Murder Club” ( Scout, Cybele, Miranda) show up at the Serpent Room. They want to help a young model, Daisy Chapman, whose agent is taking advantage of her.

One Year Ago:

A journalist named Rosie Wright is undercover at the Gerson PR agency. Neil Gerson helps men cover up sexual harassment charges. The team is discussing Gabriel Knox, a drone manufacturer who wants to run for president.

Grey arrests Scout.

One Year Ago:

Roșie interviews director Deirdre Cole about Scout, and Deirdre tells her about Georgia’s death at Easton Banks’s house. Then Rosie decides this is Scout’s villain origin story and sleeps with Detective Faciano to get Georgia’s case file. After that, Rosie meets with Carmen, telling her that she doesn’t think Alden killed Georgia.

Grey questions Scout. But Scout’s old friend Brooks, now an FBI agent, thinks that the messages left by the killer(s) are not from Scout, they are FOR her.

Rosie (who we are now following in the present) is upset that everyone is cheering Scout on.

One of Georgia’s professors reaches out to Rosie and says that Georgia was recording video diaries for her class. Rosie watches them and learns that Georgia was seeing an older man.

Rosie’s body is discovered, with a message in blood above her body. Her laptop was stolen.

Meanwhile, Scout, Brooks, and Izzy decide to re-investigate Georgia’s death. They go talk to Dakota, Alden’s sister, who says that she was with Alden when Georgia was murdered. Two party guests confirm this.

Grey finds someone who knew her missing sister Alice: Nico, the bartender at the Serpent Room.

The Murder Club learns that creepy studio head Easton Banks married Alden’s friend Emerson “Emmy” Nolan.

They go talk to Lila Baumgarten, who took over the studio after Easton. She says she was the one who took him down by hiring a PI to take photos of him creeping on high school girls. That PI also has photos of Georgia with Easton Banks. Also, Reese, Gabriel and Easton used to hang out at the Serpent Room and there are pictures of them with the two missing girls, Alice and Daisy.

Scout and Izzy break into Easton’s office, where Izzy hits Easton over the head with a Golden Globe. Then Emmy shows up with a gun and shoots Easton.

Emmy admits killing Georgia because she was seeing Easton.

Ten Years Earlier:

Emmy realizes that Georgia is sleeping with Easton. She watches Easton strangle Georgia during sex. He begins to cry, thinking that he killed her.

Georgia is still alive, but Emmy convinces Easton that Georgia needs to die and hits her over the head with a lamp.

Emmy confesses and is arrested but says she was working with someone.

Juliet Stone, a model that the HGMC is trying to help, is arrested for bombing Gabriel Knox’s headquarters. Then there’s a big info dump: Elizabeth Drake worked for Gabriel Knox. Simon Markham was making a documentary about Knox. Rosie (as we know) was following the story of Alice and Daisy and that photo of them with Knox before they both vanished.

Emmy worked with a mysterious someone to frame Scout for three murders: Elizabeth Drake, Simon Markham and Rosie Wright. In exchange, that person wanted Emmy to kill Easton Banks.

Scout tries to blackmail Grey into letting Juliet off. When Grey says no, Scout confesses to the bombing.

Daisy is alive, now pretending to be Luca Clearwater. She says she and Alice were with Reese, Gabriel and Easton and she ended up buried alive in the desert. She was afraid to speak up, and got plastic surgery. She killed Elizabeth Blake, who wouldn’t sell her boss out, and killed Simon because he was whitewashing Knox’s reputation.

Grey arrests Luca/Daisy. Scout gets a light sentence. Knox is under investigation for murder.
