Readers Guide for The Girls Trip

04.13.2026 by Jen Ryland // Leave a Comment

My Readers Guide for The Girls Trip by Ally Condie looks at this wilderness adventure thriller set in a fictionalized National Park. Girls Trip Gone Wrong books are a staple in the suspense genre, but the outdoors aspect gave this a new twist. See what I thought of the book and if it might be for you!

Jen’s Quick Take on The Girls Trip

Photo of The Girls Trip on a shelf next to other books with green and yellow covers.
  • The Girls Trip is a survival/wilderness suspense story set in Eden National Park
  • It also has a girls trip element as three women who met online during a pandemic book group gather in real life for an off-the-grid hiking trip
  • The story got off to a strong start when one member of the trip vanishes during a flash flood.
  • But I felt this story was bogged down by too many narrative devices, which, for me, diluted the story’s emotional underpinning: five POVs (including a ghost), a stalker, disappearances in the past and present, plus epistolary elements.
  • Ally Condie also wrote The Unwedding, which also had a great premise but didn’t quite come together for me.
  • Publication date: April 7, 2026 by Grand Central Publishing. Thanks to them for this advance copy!

Quick Plot Summary for The Girls Trip

Hope, Ash, and Caro met online during the pandemic.

Now Hope, a famous actress, has suggested that the threesome meet up for an off-the-grid hiking trip in Southern Utah.

Hope ups the ante by locking all their phones in a lockbox. They are sharing a burner phone for emergencies.

Caro, who grew up nearby, has hiked in the area before, and meets an old friend, Spencer, on the trail.

While the women are hiking, Page, a resort employee, sneaks into their rooms. There’s an epistolary element where Page writes to her older sister.

One night, there’s a flash flood, and Hope disappears

As Caro and Ash wait for search and rescue, they see a body.

Ash suggests that they keep Hope’s fame a secret.

They finally get to the lockbox for their phones, but can’t open it. They run into Spencer, whose friend Tony is missing.

When they get the lockbox opened, Hope’s phone is not there, and they each get a text saying, “it’s me.”

We learn in a flashback that Hope told them she had a stalker and gave them burner phones. I think to use to contact her? It’s a bit confusing.

Ash’s husband shows up at the same National Park, which isn’t weird at all…

Tony’s body is found

Then Caro’s father goes missing. See what I mean?? What even. In a completely new plotline, he’s haunted by a missing girl, whom I suspect is Page’s sister.

In (I think) a flashback, Hope tells the girls that she hired a hacker to find the stalker.

Now Colby, the resort manager, is also missing.

The mysterious texter wants them to meet her at the top of a mountain. And of course they don’t tell the police or ANYONE.

Caro mentions that her mom DIED on the hike getting to this very mountain. WHAT? And Wade and his brother show up on the mountain because of course.

Hope’s agent shows up and says that Hope left Caro and Ash money in her will.

Ash learns that Wade has been stealing her floral company money.

Spoilers for the Ending of The Girls Trip

  • Page’s sister Eve disappeared during the filming of a movie that Hope was in.
  • Hope was using herself as bait for the stalker
  • Ash knew about this plan
  • Then Hope was kidnapped, not lost in the flood
  • Page is somehow also kidnapped, tells Caro and Ash that “he”killed her sister.”
  • Page’s sister Eve was Henry’s student
  • Hope pops up, held hostage by a mystery man
  • It’s Ty the random food truck dude, who is also Hope’s stalker
  • Why? Because “he wants women he can’t have”
  • Ash shoots Ty with a flare gun
  • Eve can finally be put to rest and Page scatters her ashes
