The Maid’s Secret: Jen’s Quick Take

- The Maid’s Secret is book three in the Molly the Maid series by Nita Prose
- There was also a Christmas novella released in 2024 which is considered as book 2.5 on Goodreads
- This is a cozy mystery series with a neurodivergent protagonist who works at a large hotel
- The Goodreads reviews on this series really vary, with the highest being this book (with a limited number of advance reviews) and the lowest being the novella (which was called a mystery but was not)
- Recommended for fans of quirky detectives, the series has a “Clue” feel, and a cozy vibe
- Publication Date: April 8, 2025 by Random House. See all the new April 2025 mysteries and thriller here!
- Thanks to the publisher for the advance copy for review.
Jen’s Maid Series Character Guide
You might recall that book two, The Mystery Guest, took us out of the Regency Grand Hotel and into Molly’s childhood. This introduced some new characters.
The Maid’s Secret does another backwards time jump, incorporating chapters set when Molly’s beloved Gran was a young woman (which I’m guessing is the 1950s?)
If you have bad book amnesia (me too!), I have created a downloadable guide of characters from books one and two, plus a quick memory refresh for book three.

I also have a spoilers post on The Maid here, but The Maid’s Secret is more closely connected to The Mystery Guest.

What did you think of this one? I think The Mystery Guest is still my favorite, but what’s yours?
I felt that Gran’s diary had more plot than the egg theft. I’m not sure that $500,000 made up for what Algernon did. What about poor Penelope?
