I will do my Quick Take if you only want the short and sweet, and then give you more thoughts on the series as a whole!

Jen’s Quick Take on Other People’s Houses

• Other People’s Houses is book three in the DC Morgan series, which includes The Last Party and Game of Lies.
• Can you read Other People’s as a standalone? Yes, if you don’t mind missing out on the growing relationship between Ffion and Leo. But I recommend starting from book one!
• These books are set on the border of England and Wales. I loved that in this book, Leo and Fffion each have their own investigation.
• There’s also epistolary content in the form of podcast transcripts about another case entirely.
• I love the humor of these books, and the cultural commentary about England vs. Wales.
• If you like 1980s and 1990s-style procedural series with romantic subplots, like those by Elizabeth George, Deborah Crombie, and Julia Spencer-Fleming, grab this series now!
• Publication date: September 16, 2025 by Sourcebooks Landmark!

My Thoughts on the DC Morgan Series

This series just gets better and better for me. I really enjoy the setting and learning about Ffion’s Welsh heritage. There’s also a lot of character growth through the three books. This third installment gives Leo’s ex-wife Allie and son larger roles, and I enjoyed this development.

Leo and Ffion each have a case in this installment. His is about a series of mysterious burglaries in an exclusive community of homes. Hers is about a murder victim found in a kayak. Then there’s the podcast: an investigation into the mysterious murders of Stephanie and Peter Carmichael in their home.

Though this book ends with a bit of a cliffhanger, the author’s Q and A at the end indicates that her next book will be a standalone thriller.

So that gives you time to catch up with this series before book four comes out (and there has GOT to be a book four!)
