- The Hitchhikers is a historical thriller set in the 1970s
- The story centers around two couples and features ever-increasing tension
- I really do not like abduction stories, so I have no idea why I requested this
- BUT the way that Stevens manages to balance character development with a suspenseful thriller pace was impressive!
- Yes, The Hitchhiker is violent on one level, but it also had a lot of emotional depth as well.

Sometimes I think about the fact that 2000s technology makes it more challenging to be a bad guy getting away with stuff in a mystery or thriller book.
On the internet, everything is forever! There is CCTV watching us! And not only do our phones track us, they make it possible to get help when we’re in a scary situation.
I have some hazy memories of the 1970s, and I really enjoyed the setting of the book, which takes place in 1976 in the Pacific Northwest.

With ever increasing tension and characters I came to worry about, The Hitchhiker kept me turning the pages!
