Zana’s journal:
It’s been two weeks on the island. Water is running low and there’s no help in sight.
- After the crew leaves in the yacht with Nico, the storm blows in. The power goes out in the middle of the night and Lyla goes outside to explore. She finds a shack with filming equipment and another with a radio which she uses to try to contact the Over Easy.
- The next morning, Joel goes to check on Romi, while Dan tells Lyla that Santana is badly hurt.

- Conor rebuilds the jetty so he and Zana can move to the water villa. Bayer and Conor fight over the water allotment.
- Angel wakes up Lyla to tell her all the food and water is missing. Conor says he took it to the water villa to protect it from rats. He and Bayer start physically fighting and Bayer is killed. The group buries him. Santana reveals to Lyla that she only has a limited amount of insulin.

Zana’s journal
Dan was the villain in the food dispute.
- As Angel, Santana and Lyla work on a bonfire to signal their location, Santana tells Lyla that Conor’s ex, Cally, took her own life. She was nineteen when she died. Santana thinks Zana is his new victim.

- Lyla tells Joel that she found Santana’s insulin clutched in Dan’s hand. Joel says he wants to be alone to think.
Zana’s journal:
They were all playing in the ocean when a riptide pulled Dan out by sea.
- Lyla tells Angel and Santana that she thinks Joel took the insulin for Conor. She’s now worried Joel went to confront Conor.
- Conor tells the the women they must gather coconuts to get their ration. When he goes off to fish, the women tell Zana that he’s controlling and abusive.

Part Three: The Reckoning

- The women notice that Conor seems indifferent to the ship, even though they’re running out of food and water and Angel is dangerously low on insulin. Lyla suggests Conor knows he could be prosecuted for murder so he doesn’t care.
- Angel says that they have to kill Connor.
- Santana points out that their conversations about Conor stealing the insulin and killing Dan took place on camera. Lyla says her microphone wasn’t working. Angel says the broken microphones make it easier for Conor to kill them, but also easier for them to kill him.
- Santana confronts Conor about Zana’s whereabouts. Lyla swims out to the Water Villa to look for her. Zana steps out onto the veranda, but has a black eye.
- Santana and Lyla fill in Angel, who reiterates that it is time to kill Conor. Santana reminds them she has two more days of insulin, and after that she will die. The women discuss killing Conor with Santana’s insulin.
The Ending of One Perfect Couple Explained
- The women put sleeping pills in two of five coconuts, one for Zana and one for Connor, and take all five to the water villa. Lyla suggests a group toast with the coconuts. An hour later, they realize that Angel got one of the drugged coconuts by mistake. Lyla and Santana leave Angel in their villa and climb out the window to avoid the cameras.
- Santana preps the vial with as much insulin as she can and they both head for the villa.
- At the villa, Santana stabs Connor in the leg with the insulin needle, but he wakes up and hurls her to the floor, rendering her unconscious.
- Conor tries to choke Lyla, but Zana hits him with a water bottle and he falls into the sea. Zana jumps into the water to try to drown him. Lyla swim to help Zana and is almost swept off by a riptide.
- Lyla wakes up on the beach. Santana got her insulin back and is alive. Lyla off-handedly mentions that Angel found Joel hanging from a tree by a bedsheet.
- They discuss how to get the radio working again. Angel has some experience working in her father’s garage and decides to try.
- Angel and Lyla realize Santana’s blood sugar is off. Angel appears and says she got the radio to work and that a boat is coming.
- The woman stop celebrating to give Santana glucose. Zana says she’s going to be convicted by an for killing her boyfriend. The other women say if they just get their story straight, they’ll be fine.
- Lyla suggests Zana makes a journal with a fake account of events.
Zana’s Journal:
The jetty to the water villa collapsed. Santana fell and hit her head on the wooden post, but also grabbed Lyla as she fell, and they both ended up in the ocean. Conor dove in to save them, but drowned in the process.
- The women discuss how Zana made a narrative that fits anything that might be on the camera. Lyla feels it is a bit ironic they had to twisted everything into a narrative where Dan is a villain and Conor is a tragic hero. The boat arrives.
- The women are given food and taken to the British embassy in Jakarta. They are told the Over Easy sank in the storm. Santana thinks the show was a way for Baz to get justice for Cally, his cousin who took her own life.
- Lyla thinks everyone was handpicked by Baz in an attempt to get revenge for Cally’s suicide. He was hoping Conor would have a career-destroying meltdown on camera. They toast to survival.
- Lyla gets a new phone which has dozens and dozens of texts and messages. Finally, she comes to the last text Nico sent her. He apologizes and hopes she wins.
What Are Your Questions About The Perfect Couple?
As I said in my review of One Perfect Couple, I was a little surprised by a few things:
- That One Perfect Couple was more a harrowing survival story than a suspense novel or murder mystery (though I really did enjoy it.)
- That the reality TV element was VERY minor. There was one quick quiz, one elimination, and then the storm hit.
I loved the female-forward aspect of this one. By the end, it was the four remaining women against Conor, the only man left standing.
I was confused about Zana’s journal at first, but by the end, I absolutely loved the idea of it as a way for the women to cover their tracks.
