I loved Erin Hahn’s debut, You’d Be Mine, about two rising country music stars who fall in love. What did I think about this book, which had a very different vibe, musical and otherwise? Check out my review of More Than Maybe.

More Than Maybe by Erin Hahn. Published by Wednesday Books on July 21, 2020. Thanks to the publisher for inviting me to join the blog tour and providing a review copy.
Synopsis from Goodreads: Growing up under his punk rocker dad’s spotlight, eighteen-year-old Luke Greenly knows fame and wants nothing to do with it. He prefers the anonymous comfort of the locally popular podcast he co-hosts with his outgoing and meddling, far-too-jealousy-inspiringly-happy-with-his-long-term-boyfriend twin brother, Cullen. But that’s not Luke’s only secret. He also has a major un-requited crush on music blogger Vada Carsewell. Vada’s got a five year plan: secure a job at the Loud Lizard to learn from local legend (and her mom’s boyfriend) Phil Josephs (check), take over Phil’s music blog (double check), get accepted into Berkeley’s prestigious music journalism program (check, check, check), manage Ann Arbor’s summer concert series and secure a Rolling Stone internship. Luke Greenly is most definitely NOT on the list. So what if his self-deprecating charm and out-of-this-world music knowledge makes her dizzy?

Review of More Than Maybe:
I absolutely loved Erin Hahn’s debut and was excited that her next book, More Than Maybe, also featured themes of music, family and romance.
If you’ve read You’d Be Mine, be ready for the fact that More Than Maybe had a very different vibe, though. The mood of each book reflects the type of music it features. More Than Maybe, which features 80s and 90s music, grunge, and classic rock, felt a lot sharper and edgier than You’d Be Mine, which was emotional and had a stronger romance plot line and a whole lot of angst and longing (just like a country song!)
More Than Maybe is set in the coolest college town in the USA (Ann Arbor, Michigan!) and featured two main characters who are each the child of a former musician. Luke is musically talented himself but prefers to stay behind the scenes, podcasting and write songs, much to his father’s disappointment. Vada, a music blogger, is hoping for a career in music journalism … if her father, who has remarried and started a new family, will cough up money for college.
More Than Maybe had a alt/indie vibe that reminded me a lot of movies like High Fidelity or Empire Records. In some ways I felt that Luke and Vada seemed a) older than high school age and b) way too cool for me, with their extensive music knowledge, insider music jokes, and habits of communicating through texts of links to YouTube videos of songs.
Luke and Vada were an interesting couple. He’s British and more reserved, she’s a brash American. But together they make (okay I won’t say sweet music – way too corny) a perfect opposites attract couple.
If you are music obsessed, you will definitely love More Than Maybe. Hahn is a really wonderful writer – this book reminded me a lot of one of my other favorite writers, Emma Mills – and I remain a huge fan.

I adored this book, and there were so many amazing musical references (some of my favorites were in there). The YouTube texts plus such a great ending made me really happy
I did not go watch all the Youtube videos but the concept was very cute!
