Bookish News for the week of January 11 2021

If you, like me, are still hiding under the covers waiting for 2021 to shape up, take a book under there with you! Here are some books and other bookish news for the week of January 11 2021

First off, here are the New YA Releases for this week. Tomorrow I’ll have all the January reviews as I’m trying something new.

Angel of Greenwood by Randi Pink. A YA historical set during the Greenwood massacre of 1921. Two Black teens working on a mobile library are horrified witnesses to a white mob storming the community.

The Beautiful Struggle by Ta Nehisi Coates. A YA adaptation of the bestselling memoir. This book features a look into Coates’ relationship with his father, and the dynamics of his extended family.

Chlorine Sky by Mahogany L Brown. A novel in verse about a young girl coming of age and struggling with friendships.

Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas. – A look at Garden Heights seventeen years before the events of The Hate U Give. Maverick, a King Lord, discovers that he’s a father.

Girl on the Ferris Wheel by Julie Halpern and Len Vlahos. A drummer in a band falls for a movie buff dealing with depression.

Every Single Lie by Rachel Vincent. A girl makes a shocking discovery in her boyfriend’s gym bag in this book about social media and bullying.

Into the Heartless Wood by Joanna Ruth Meyer. A fantasy about an enchanted forest, a witch, and her eight tree daughters.

Meet Cute Project by Rhiannon Richardson. Mia HATES meet cutes. But when she has to find a date for her sister’s wedding, her friends propose a crazy idea.

Pudge and Prejudice by A. K. Pittman. In 1984, an insecure girl trying to find a place in a new school is overshadowed by her popular sister.

Soul of Cinder (Heart of Thorns #3) by Bree Barton. The conclusion to the trilogy about a prince trying to reclaim his throne.

Tales From the Hinterland (A Hazelwood Companion) by Melissa Albert. Twelve lush and sinister fairy tales with beautiful illustrations.

You Have a Match by Emma Lord. A girl takes a DNA test and makes a shocking discovery: she has an older sister her parents never told her about. You can read my thoughts on this one on Goodreads. I didn’t like this as much as Tweet Cute (sad face). I felt like there was a ton going on (multiple romances, both with exes involved + a lot of family drama) and that it didn’t all gel together for me.

Adult Books Releasing the week of January 11

Here are two I’m debating and my thoughts:

The House on Vesper Sands by Paraic O’Donnell. If you’re a regular reader, you know I am ALL about a good Gothic mystery. The Goodreads reviews are seriously mixed though. What to do???

Siri, Who Am I by Sam Tschida. This was postponed due to the pandemic. A millennial with amnesia uses her social media to try to get her memory back. On the one hand, I am kind of over social media themed books.
