My Favorite Family Secrets Suspense Novels

Dark Family Secrets Suspense Novels are a subcategory of suspense that are not only fun, but popular. I mean, who doesn’t have a family? Hopefully, your family’s secrets aren’t as dark and disturbing as in these books, but doesn’t every family have a skeleton in their closet? (Hopefully not a literal one.) I’m here to discuss my Favorite Family Secrets Suspense Novels!

My Favorite Family Secrets Suspense Novels

What Makes a Family Suspense Novel?

  • A family suspense novel typically involves a character returning to a hometown or family home
  • Dark family secrets are either kept by the main character, or from them
  • Psychological elements, like gaslighting, amnesia, or an unreliable narrator create an overall sense of unease and uncertainty
  • Flashbacks, memories, or epistolary elements like journal entries are often used.
  • Twists and shocking reveals are common

Every book has an inciting event and I’m seeing a lot of Family Secrets Books that kick off with a death or inheritance, so I’m splitting those into a separate section.
