My Readers Guide for Salt Water by Katy Hays will have a character list to help you keep the Lingate family straight, a quick plot summary, SPOILERS and the ending explained. What genre of book is Salt Water, will you like it, and what did other readers think about Salt Water? Let’s dive in!

Jen’s Quick Take on Salt Water
- Salt Water is an Evil Rich Family book perfect for fans of Succession and Saltburn.
- But as I watched White Lotus S3 right after reading this, I realized that, like White Lotus, this book is 90% vibes then the end is 10% chaos.
- If you love White Lotus, read this book (also check out my list of Books Like White Lotus)
- If you need likable characters, this book will NOT be for you!
- Salt Water had really great “rich people in Capri” atmosphere
- Many readers found it slow paced. YES, as I mentioned above, it is long on VIBES and short on twists… until the very end.
- I did stick along for the ride and that ending was interesting. We will discuss that below!
- Thanks so much to Ballantine books for the advance copy.
- Publication date: March 25, 2025
- Check out my full list of new March 2025 Thrillers and Mysteries
- And also this book: Her Dark Lies by J.T. Ellison, which had many similar elements!

Plot Summary for Salt Water with Spoilers

Part One
In 1992, Sarah Lingate fell off a cliff in Capri to her death. Over 30 years later, her brother-in-law Marcus’s assistant Lorna disappears too.
The narrative of Salt Water alternates between a) 1992, b) the days before Lorna’s disappearance, and c) the days after Lorna vanishes. That can got a bit confusing to some readers!

Well that was QUITE the ending. What did you think about Salt Water? Did you enjoy the slow pace, the drawn out reveal about what happened to Sarah, and the evil rich characters? Did you love the ending? I was actually very amused by it, even though there were WAY too many coincidences….
