Review of Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice

First off, if you forgot what happened in the series thus far, go check out my Full Series Summary of the Finlay Donovan books by Elle Cosimano. It does NOT have spoilers for this book and will get your memory refreshed about ALL the events of the prior three books. It also has a downloadable character list and quick FAQs answered for book four.
The upside of the Finlay Donovan books is their wacky humor. If you like a comic mystery, you’ll enjoy the slapstick comedy in this one, which reminded me a little bit of Dial A for Aunties. To me, this might be the funniest book in the series.
I was also happy to have a change of scene in this book. Atlantic City wouldn’t be my very first choice, but who doesn’t love a good road trip? And, there’s a dog in the story.
Last bonus: I’ve never been a huge Vero fan, but this was her book to shine! We find out a lot more about her and get to see her softer side. I didn’t know that Elle Cosimano wrote a short story about Vero’s past, so go check that out here!

On the downside for those of us with terrible book amnesia: this series still feels like a never-ending story, with one continuous plot line. (Which is why you really need my Series Summary!

A few early readers felt that Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice got even more outlandish in plot. Yes, it did, but I’ve just decided to go with it.
I’m also getting a bit tired of mob and mafia plots and could use another type of mystery! But the cliffhanger in this book made me hopeful that maybe that will happen in book five. Maybe!
