The Year of the Witching by Alexis Henderson (2020)

The Year of the Witching

YA Books About Witches: Serpent & Dove

Once and Future Witches by Alex E. Harrow (2020)

In the 1800s, a trio of witch sisters use witchcraft to change the course of history. Can’t wait to try this feminist historical fiction!

In 1893, there’s no such thing as witches. There used to be, in the wild, dark days before the burnings began, but now witching is nothing but tidy charms and nursery rhymes. If the modern woman wants any measure of power, she must find it at the ballot box.

But when the Eastwood sisters–James Juniper, Agnes Amaranth, and Beatrice Belladonna–join the suffragists of New Salem, they begin to pursue the forgotten words and ways that might turn the women’s movement into the witch’s movement.

Born Wicked series by Jessica Spotswood

Little Women with witches? Yes, please, to a sister story with witches set in 1890s New England!

You can read my review of Born Wicked here!

Everybody knows Cate Cahill and her sisters are eccentric. Too pretty, too reclusive, and far too educated for their own good. But the truth is even worse: they’re witches. And if their secret is discovered by the priests of the Brotherhood, it would mean an asylum, a prison ship—or an early grave.

Before her mother died, Cate promised to protect her sisters. But with only six months left to choose between marriage and the Sisterhood, she might not be able to keep her word..

Trial by Fire series by Josephine Angelini

Trial by Fire: cover shows a sown walking toward a castle

This time travel book is both contemporary and historical – a girl falls into an alt-universe and meets her doppelgänger, a powerful witch.

Read my Review of Trial by Fire

But Lily’s life never goes according to plan, and after a humiliating incident in front of half her graduating class Lily wishes she could just disappear.

Suddenly Lily is in a different Salem – one overrun with horrifying creatures and ruled by powerful women called Crucibles. Strongest and cruellest of all the Crucibles is Lillian… Lily’s identical other self in this alternate universe.

Kingdom of the Wicked by Keri Maniscalco

Kingdom of the Wicked: cover shows a snake slithering through a skull

Emilia and her twin sister Vittoria are 17th Century Sicilian witches who live secretly among humans. One night, Vittoria misses dinner and Emilia soon finds the body of her beloved twin.

Hex Hall! 😍 People don’t talk about these books enough, but they are honestly fantastic.
I remember reading the first book of Born Wicked but I never continued. Unfortunately, I don’t think it was my thing.
I’m actually intrigued by Trial by Fire and Half Bad. Thank you for the recommendations 😀
Have you read Serpent and Dove? It’s the newest witch book everyone is talking about. I bought it and It seems pretty good so far 🙂

I loved the Hex Hall books so much. I was so sad, when Hawkins abandoned the spinoff. I kept hoping she would go back to it after the Rebel Belle books were done, but she didn’t. *sad face* I read the Graces books. I liked the series, and my daughter loved them too, but I know people’s opinions were very mixed on them.

They were really fun – and funny. I didn’t know a spin-off was a possibility but I feel like paranormal is ready for a comeback.
Someone described the first Grace book as like Twilight which I could be up for lol
