Jen’s Picks of New April 2026 Mysteries and Thrillers by Subgenre:

  • Buzzy April Titles: The Ending Writes Itself, which is about six writers invited to a private island and asked to finish the book of an acclaimed mystery writer, now dead. Agatha Christie inspired and I’m reading it! Guilt by Keigo Higashino: long anticipated! Also Yesteryear, about a “tradwife” influencer who wakes up in the 1800s. It sounds odd, but I’m reading it now. It’s very voicey and I’m curious to see where it’s headed.
  • April Suspense: Too Close to Home, Her First Lie
  • Survival Thrillers: The Girls Trip, Blood Trail
  • Family Drama: The Summer House Murder, A Killer in the Family
  • Literary Mystery: Kill Dick and The Lost Book of Elizabeth Barton

New Mystery and Thriller Books for the Week of April 7 2026

The Ending Writes Itself by Evelyn Clarke

A group of authors is gathered on an island and asked to finish the last novel of a celebrated mystery novelist. An homage to Agatha Christie!

This is getting mixed reviews, with someone whose taste I usually agree with telling me it was disappointing, so I am holding off for now.

The Girls Trip by Ally Condie

A girls getaway in a National Park turns terrifying when one of the group vanishes. I didn’t love The Unwedding, and I’m sad to report that for me, this one had WAY too much going on.

Readers Guide to the Girls Trip

Guilt by Keigo Higashino

Tokyo Detective Gadai is unsure about a man’s confession to two murders. The first standalone English-language novel from Higashino in nearly a decade!

The Counting Game by Sinéad Nolan

A teenage girl vanishes from a small Irish village while playing a childhood ritual game in the woods. A so a psychotherapist is called in to advise on a traumatized young witness. Sounds a bit like The Silent Patient…

My Review of The Counting Game

The Summer House Murder by Ava Roberts

Summer in family house shared between three sisters and their families digs up old secrets.

My Review of The Summer House Murder

My Review of A Cruise to Die For

Blood Trail by Matt Query and Harrison Query

A Killer in the Family by Amin Ahmad

In Mumbai, a young photographer’s parents arrange his marriage to the daughter of a New York real estate scion. But is his new father-in-law hiding something terrible? In a family of people protecting their own secrets, who can he trust?

Here’s my Review of A Killer in the Family!

Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke

A successful”tradwife” influencer suddenly wakes up in the 1800s.

I’m leaving this on here, but to call it crime fiction is a BIG stretch.

I’m still waiting for a book from Jane Harper that I’ll love as much as The Survivors.

My Review of The Last One Out

Too Close to Home by Seraphina Nova Glass

Fan favorite Seraphina Nova Glass turns from small town secrets to high drama. A car bomb explodes at a suburban Labor Day party. The intended target must unravel a web of secrets before someone finishes the job.

Elsie Fitzpatrick has lived on Kenny Lane for sixty years. When her neighbor dies, Elsie, the notorious “Mad Mabel,” becomes the prime suspect.

So unusual and completely unique – loved it!
