I love finding out what other people are watching, so I like to tell you what I’ve been watching and streaming from time to time! Welcome to Jen Watches Winter 2019, in which I will discuss what I’ve been watching – streaming – DVRing lately…
Jen Watches Winter 2019

Dirty John – I loved the podcast. I did like the show, even though I already knew the story. I thought Connie Britton and Eric Bana and the whole cast were fantastic. My only criticism is that I think the show had too many episodes – it seemed way too drawn out and I wasn’t a fan of the “Affair” style episode that featured events from John’s point of view. But overall, I do recommend this!

The People vs. OJ Simpson – my husband convinced me to watch this. I guess I was busy with school in the 90s – I remembered a lot of random things about the trial but I certainly wasn’t glued to Court TV. I thought the script was really interesting – it tackled issues of racism and police corruption but also issues of feminism, friendship, and loyalty. What I didn’t expect was the way it offered insight into a time that pre-dated our current obsession with celebrity culture and social media – and shows how the Kardashians were a part of that even before Kim and her infamous tape. The cast was fantastic too.

Tidying Up – My friends say I should be a professional organizer, so of course I’ve read Marie Kondo’s book. Some of the things I found a little wacky in the book, like saying thanks to your possessions, made more sense on screen. Kondo flits around people’s piles of junk in her cute little sweater and skirt outfits and spreads calm and order. Not sure if I will watch all the episodes because seeing all those piles of stuff really stresses me out! I wonder if Marie is screaming inside too??
I feel like I’m forgetting something but I guess I can put it in a later post. What should I be watching? Please tell me as I’m running out of things…
I started watching Marie Kondo’s series, too but yeah, that thanking possessions thing is a little out there. Idk, I was expecting to see some drastic changes with the homes she visited, I guess. I’m a little disappointed.
I thought it was out there until I saw the show. I think it’s more let things go that you don’t love, and really appreciate the things you have left. I can get behind that.
I want to watch the Marie Kondo show. I have no issue getting rid of stuff but bad with organizing what is left. Dirty John is on my to watch list as well.
Well, as an aspiring organizer, I do not always agree with her. She likes folding clothes into teeny little squares. I cringe, thinking about wrinkles. I do not like storing clothes in drawers, ever. Except socks and underwear.
I loved the Dear John podcast! I have seen so many different stories, podcasts, etc on Simpson and I am just tired of hearing about it? Like, he did it, got away with it, the end. How much more can POSSIBLY be revealed? lol
I liked how the OJ series used the story to touch on other cultural issues. It was really interesting!
I feel like the only person, who has not watched the Marie Kondo series.
It’s not for everyone!
I love it when you post what you’re watching because my husband and I tend to rewatch our favorite ALL THE TIME. It’s nice to get some new options. Not sure if I can watch Marie’s show though, I am a clutterbug and my husband already wants to get rid of all my unread books (doesn’t she say you should have 30 or less?! Crazy talk.)
Yeah, she’s scary with the books.
I watched Tidying Up and I think the later episodes were better than the first one. I don’t necessarily believe things need to “spark joy” in order to keep them or that you need to thank things. But I found the folding techniques super helpful and the idea of letting someone else find joy in things you don’t have use for anymore helped kick start me into throwing out some of my more emotional items for the move lol

useful if you are moving!!!
I feel like I need you AND Marie Kondo to come over and help. Those people seem… tidy compared to me I feel! (Well- I only watched the first episode and those people irked me and then I got stressed out and stopped, but I am going to watch more!)
The OJ Trial… I remember our teachers in school letting us watch it from time to time, on days when big stuff was happening. I was in like, 7th and 8th grade during it all, and I don’t know how you managed to avoid it at the time, it was so in-your-face! I do think the show would be really interesting to watch though!
I will come. I love tidying up things. it’s weird I know…
I think I was way too young to be interested when the OJ Simpson trial happened, but it’d be interesting to dig into now after law school. I remember an evidence professor using an example from it once.
I’ve watched a couple of episodes of Marie Kondo. She’s very sweet, and the concepts behind her method are pretty much what I use, but some of her techniques are a little wacky for me. Like, I get wanting to make getting rid of things a positive experience, but saying “thank you” to your stuff . . . and the house? Feels like it’s there for emotional manipulation to maintain productivity? Which, granted, is probably helpful for a lot of people who would otherwise get discouraged halfway through the project. 🙂 I don’t know if I’ll watch the rest of the season though.
You should definitely try the show – it focuses a lot on the legal wrangling…
I have been seeing a lot of people watching Tidying Up. Some bookworms are loving the tips and tricks for other things, but are a lot are not about that 30 books or less life 😛 The reaction memes have been so interesting to me!
Hahaha 30 books is crazy. I’m sure we all don’t need so many clothes though…
