Freida McFadden is a popular author on BookTok and on social media. Though I’ve read her books before, this is my first review. How does The Coworker compare to her other books? Audiobook Review of The Coworker by Frieda McFadden

Freida McFadden is a very popular thriller writer on BookTok and Bookstagram, so of course I have checked her books out.

I have found that McFadden’s books make great audiobooks.

All Freida McFadden books that I’ve read have pretty straightforward plots. Yes, she loves a twist, but there aren’t time jumps or dual timelines, which can be confusing on audio.

McFadden’s books also feature limited number of characters. The Coworker had four main characters and about four or five more minor ones. There is often just one narrator, though The Coworker had a dual POV.

Her stories are straightforward and heavy on exposition and dialogue, with very limited descriptions and world building.

What Did I Think of The Coworker?

I thought The Coworker was considerably less dark than the McFadden books I’ve read so far. And just a heads-up, this one contains pretty extensive bullying of a character who is neurodivergent.

Also, I found the main twist in this one to be pretty predictable, and I am often surprised by a Frieda McFadden twist.

The Coworker reminded me a little bit of The Maid by Nita Prose, with main character Dawn reminding me of The Maid’s main character, Molly.

As an audiobook, The Coworker was enjoyable and kept my interest. I listened at regular speed because it isn’t an overly long book and the narrator didn’t read too slowly. (It’s the same narrator as Want to Know a Secret, if you’ve listened to that.
