Readers Guide for I Would Die for You

In 1986, a sixteen year-old British girl named Cassie is ready for the new album release by her favorite band, Secret Oktober. She meets a girl named Amelia and they discover they are both obsessed with band member Ben Edwards.

Cassie has a sister named Nicole. She’s an aspiring musician who’s working as a waitress. Their mother Gigi is very ill.

2010

Hannah is found and says she had a fun afternoon with her “aunt.”

1986

Cassie continues to stalk Secret Oktober with Amelia. The two girls go to the band’s hotel and hang out with them. Cassie gets arrested because the band has drugs at an afterparty. There’s a lot of boring band drama as Amelia goes after Michael, another band member.

Meanwhile, Nicole is doing a music gig when a man shows up (Ben, of course!) and gives her a business card

2010

The school shows Nicole and her husband Brad the CCTV footage of the woman who picked Hannah up. Nicole isn’t sure who it is, but is certain Brad knows her.

Brad and Nicole go to a bar to talk and Zoe shows up. She said she’s writing a book and then Nicole can help her. She says that one of the most famous musicians in the world was murdered in 1980s and Nicole was a suspect.

1986

Ben calls Nicole. He wants her to listen to a song. But it’s actually the song she was singing when he came in the bar. He wants to collaborate with her. Nicole and Ben continue to write songs together. Ben tells her that Michael has a serious drug problem. And a red carpet appearance Ben also tells Cassie to get lost.

2010

Nicole admits to Brad that she was hanging around with the band in the 1980s. He shocked that she never mentioned it. She said after the trial she needed to get away from the UK. Zoe harasses Nicole at her seal charity, suggest she is stealing money.

1986

Nicole and Ben sleep together

Cassie has been playing hooky from school. Her father tells her that her mother has passed away. Cassie runs to Nicole‘s apartment to tell her the news.

Cassie sobs to Nicole about media reports that Ben has been sleeping with a model. She tells Nicole she and Ben had “a thing.” Nicole is skeptical.

2010

Brad and Nicole argue. Brad admits that he met Zoe at a bar that she asked lots and lots of questions about Nicole. He also asked why she never told him she had a sister. Someone has defaced the seal enclosure. 

Nicole gets a call from a London solicitor. Her father has passed away. Nicole is his heir and he’s left her a letter.

1986

Nicole starts ignoring Ben. He shows up and swears the pictures with the model were from a year ago. Cassie goes to see Ben at his hotel and comes onto him. He rebuffs her. She raises a knife and he tries to stop her.

Nicole arrives to see Ben. He’s in the shower and there’s a woman there.

Michael shows up to find Cassie bleeding. He offers to drive her to the hospital and she tells him the band is splitting up. He drives her to a deserted area and sexually assaults her.

A distraught Cassie calls Nicole to pick her up. Cassie urges her to report the incident to the police.

2010

Zoe shows up with a cassette tape of the Nicole and Ben collab song. Her mother gave it to her. Nicole won’t tell Brad who Zoe might be.

(This is where Nicole starts to REALLY annoy me. She won’t tell Brad or us a single thing and I’m losing patience.)

1986

Ben shows up at their mother’s funeral and realizes that Nicole and Cassie are sisters. He’s tells Cassie that he’s in love with Nicole and Cassie runs out.

Cassie already knew. The “woman in the shower” was Amelia pretending to be Ben’s girlfriend.

Cassie shows up at a Secret Oktober press conference asking about his secret duet. The band breaks into a nasty argument.

2010

Nicole rushes to Zoe’s hotel. Nicole Zoe if her mother is still alive. Zoe says no. (What? Is her mother Cassie or Amelia?)

Also, Ben is alive. I still have no idea what is going on. Was Ben on trial for killing Michael? Or did Nicole and Cassie’s dad kill Michael?

I Would Die For You: Ending Explained

1986

Cassie gives Michael drugs. Michael dies. Cassie stages the room to implicate Ben in the overdose. (Well, there’s the answer. Also, Amelia is pregnant so Zoe must be Amelia and Michael’s daughter.)

2010

Nicole realizes that Cassie is in her house. She calls Brad’s friend Hank, and says that Hannah and Brad are being held hostage. Cassie insists that Ben gave Michael the drugs.

Nicole tells her that their father‘s letter will prove that Cassie was there when Michael died and she and her father let Ben take the blame.

Cassie says that Brad and Hannah are out on a boat without enough gas and a broken radio. What does Cassie want? Apparently just money. Cassie tries to strangle Nicole, but Brad shows up. Hannah has saved them with her Rapunzel walkie talkie. lol!

The very end of the book suggests that, once again, Cassie has murdered a member of Secret October. Do you think Cassie killed Ben and framed Nicole?
