This post will have Jen’s Quick Take plus some short protected spoilers. This isn’t a book with a lot of character and a complicated plot!
Our Last Resort: Jen’s Quick Take
- Our Last Resort has the ever-popular past/present narrative. This narrative is more to develop the two main characters, Gabriel and Frida and their unusual shared past.
- I am usually not a fan of books about cults. As children Gabriel and Frida were in a cult, but this is more used as backstory for their unusual trauma bond.
- Our Last Resort does not have lots of characters or a super-twisty plot.
- The book has gaslighting elements as Frida, the narrator, begins to doubt herself and her understanding of events.
- Some readers are saying that Our Last Resort is NOT as good as The Quiet Tenant. And I can’t weigh in on that. But I found this book suspenseful and interesting!
- Publication date: July 8, 2025. Thanks to Knopf for the advance review copy.
