I read what I like, but I also like to see what books are hanging out on the bestseller list. What did I think of James Patterson’s latest? Check out my Review of 2 Sisters Detective Agency!

Published on October 5, 2021 by Grand Central Publishing.
Synopsis: Attorney Rhonda Bird returns home after a long estrangement when she learns her father has died. There she makes two important discoveries: her father stopped being an accountant and had opened up a private detective agency, and she has a teenage half sister named Baby. Baby brings in a client to the detective agency, a young man who claims he was abducted. During the course of the investigation, Rhonda and Baby become entangled in a dangerous case involving a group of overprivileged young adults who break laws for fun, their psychopath ringleader, and an ex-assassin victim who decides to hunt them down for revenge.

I’d never tried a book by this writing duo. What did I think of this domestic thriller about a woman whose young daughter insists she witnessed a murder? Check out my review of The Unheard by Nikki French

Published on October 26, 2021 by William Morrow. Thanks to the publisher for providing a review copy.
Synopsis: Maybe Tess is overprotective, but passing her daughter Poppy off to her ex and his new young wife fills her with a sense of dread. It’s not that Jason is a bad father–it just hurts to see him enjoying married life with someone else. Still, she owes it to Poppy to make this arrangement work. But Poppy returns from the weekend tired and withdrawn. And when she shows Tess a crayon drawing–an image so simple and violent that Tess can hardly make sense of it—-Poppy can only explain with the words, “He did kill her.” Something is horribly wrong. Tess is certain Poppy saw something–or something happened to her–that she’s too young to understand. Jason insists the weekend went off without a hitch. Doctors advise that Poppy may be reacting to her parents’ separation. And as the days go on, even Poppy’s disturbing memory seems to fade. But a mother knows her daughter, and Tess is determined to discover the truth.

Love thrillers? Love the great outdoors? Interested in biology and conservation? Then you’ve got to check out my review of A Solitude of Wolverines by Alice Henderson.

A Solitude of Wolverines by Alice Henderson. Published on October 12, 2021. Thanks to the publisher for providing a review copy.
Synopsis: While studying wolverines on a wildlife sanctuary in Montana, biologist Alex Carter is run off the road and threatened by locals determined to force her off the land. Undeterred in her mission to help save this threatened species, Alex tracks wolverines on foot and by cameras positioned in remote regions of the preserve. But when she reviews the photos, she discovers disturbing images of an animal of a different kind: a severely injured man seemingly lost and wandering in the wilds. After searches for the unknown man come up empty, local law enforcement is strangely set on dismissing the case altogether, raising Alex’s suspicions. Then another invasive predator trespasses onto the preserve. The hunter turns out to be another human—and the prey is the wildlife biologist herself. Alex realizes too late that she has seen too much—she’s stumbled onto a far-reaching illegal operation and now has become the biggest threat.
