This past week I needed ground coffee and a humidifier, and instead of going to my usual big online retailers, I found small businesses to support. It was a good feeling. Try Bluestone Lane Coffee – it’s delicious!

This week’s featured charity:

NICE (New Immigrant Community Empowerment) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of workers with unstable income, with a focus on day laborers, domestic workers, and newly arrived immigrants. Right now in NYC they are distributing boxes of groceries to needy members of these vulnerable communities and helping connect them with other resources.

Here are two NYC organizations I am supporting:

The Animal Medical Center – this is the world’s largest non-profit animal hospital and it’s right here in NYC. It’s a teaching hospital that provides care to all types of animals. The provide free health care for guide dogs for the blind and also take care of the NYPD police dogs. They are amazing!

The Central Park Conservancy – during these times when New Yorkers are stuck inside for most of the day, the park offers a refuge and a respite. This non-profit, with the help of donations and volunteers, helps take care of this historic park and makes sure it stays beautiful for future generations!
