There was one point in the history of young adult books (around the 2010s) when it seemed like every character had amnesia. In case you’ve forgotten this trend, here’s my list of Best YA Amnesia Books!

An an expert of sorts on YA Amnesia books, here is my take:

There are basically two kinds of YA Amnesia books.

First, the YA sci-fi books where amnesia is a result of paranormal activity or mind control or otherwise nefarious reasons.

The second type of YA amnesia book is a contemporary book where the character has had an accident or some other physical (or psychological) trauma that caused their amnesia. Sometimes these can have mystery or thriller elements.

If you’ve read and loved The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry or Young Jane Young, you should try Zevin’s older YA books!
