What books made The Washington Post List of Best Mysteries and Thrillers of 2024? I am here to tell you and analyze their list. I have some complaints! Let’s discuss!

Washington Post List of Best Mysteries and Thrillers of 2024

This is an interesting list, but it’s heavy on series, and I think a lot of readers are hesitant to read a later book in a series. Let’s take a look!

Circle in the Water by Marcia Mueller (series)

• Book 35 in the Sharon McCone series, which is about a San Francisco private investigator.

Echo by Tracy Clark (series)

• Book three in a series about a Black female detective in Chicago. I’m going to try it and add it to my list of Mysteries by Black Woman Authors!

The Grey Wolf by Louise Penny (series)

• Book nineteen in the Chief Inspector Armand Gamache series, which takes place in Québéc Canada.

May the Wolf Die by Elizabeth Heider

• Also on the New York Times list, this book is about a female detective investigating organized crime in Naples, Italy.

The Princess of Las Vegas by Chris Bohajian

• I tried this book, which is about a Princess Diana impersonator in Las Vegas, and I just wasn’t feeling it. But if you loved it, tell me about it in comments!

A Refiner’s Fire  by Donna Leon (series)

• I also tried this thirty-third book in a series (also about an Italian police officer) and the writing style was not for me. I thought it was a translation from Italian!

The Rivals by Jane Pek (series)

• I really enjoyed The Verifiers, book one in this series about Claudia Lin, a Gen Z employee at a background check company who gets drawn into some amateur detecting. Check out my review of The Rivals!

We Solve Murders by Richard Osman (series)

• I didn’t love this first book in a new series as much as the Thursday Murder Club series, but it wasn’t bad! Check out my review of We Solve Murders and my fun theory!

What Time the Sexton’s Spade Did Rust by Alan Bradley (series)

• I read the first few Flavia de Luce books and didn’t realize the series continued!

Where They Last Saw Her by Marcie Rendon

• I’m going to try this book about a Native American woman who decides to find missing women on her reservation!
