Famous Last Words by Gillian Macallister

Famous Last Words took the domestic suspense novel to a new place!
It initially gave me some Black Doves vibes as the book opens with a woman learning her husband has taken hostages, which shocks her. But the story went in quite a different direction!

Notes on Surviving the Fire by Christine Murphy
I really enjoyed this one, but am wondering if it will appeal to my core readership here.
It’s a dark, literary amateur detective story with a college campus setting and elements that reminded me a lot of a favorite early 2000s TV show, Veronica Mars.
It also belongs on my list of books about sexual assault. It’s not YA, but it has the vibe of some of these books as well.
I’ll try to do a review on my sister site, YA All Day, and link it here!
Big Name Fan by Ruthie Knox and Annie Mare
I was really excited to read this mystery about a pair of women who starred together on a cop show and had romantic tension on and off the screen.
But I (and other readers on Goodreads) felt that the book tried to juggle too much: the women and their romance, the mystery, and the fandom and characters of the TV show. It required a lot of clunky exposition and I struggled a little with it.
Something in the Walls by Daisy Pearce
Hoping to get to this one soon!
